On January 1, 2020, the Toronto Star published my op-ed “Canadian culture is a hot international commodity,” which focused on the success of Canadian content domestically and internationally, on our wealth of talent, jobs created from coast to coast to coast, our sector's $12.8 billion contribution to Canada's GDP, and the positive impact Canadian content has on our nation's reputation worldwide.

The Canada Media Fund (CMF) recently announced additional measures to support screen-based creators, organizations and businesses from racialized communities. The CMF doubled funding to the COVID Emergency Relief Funds to Black and People of Colour, to $8M from the previously announced $4M.

Toronto, November 3, 2020 – The Canada Media Fund (CMF) today welcomed the introduction of a bill in the House of Commons by The Honourable Steven Guilbeault, Minister of Canadian Heritage, to update the Broadcasting Act. The tabling of the bill follows a report presented earlier this year by the Broadcasting and Telecommunications Legislative Review Panel. It introduces several legislative measures that were part of that report’s recommendations.

Toronto, September 1, 2020 - Funding by the Canada Medua Fund (CMF) triggered $1.4B in industry activity across the country, according to its newly published 2019-2020 Annual Report. The report also finds that $1 of CMF funding generated $4.12 in production activity, the highest leverage ratio since the CMF was created in 2010.

Toronto, April 17, 2020 – The Canada Media Fund (CMF) today welcomed the measures announced by Prime Minister Trudeau related to relief funding for the arts, culture and sports sectors. The Government of Canada will provide an additional $500M to Canadian Heritage to support the sectors through the pandemic.

Toronto, April 6, 2020 - The Canada Media Fund (CMF) will hold a webcast to provide an overview of changes to the 2020-2021 programs, budget, guidelines and deadlines. The French webcast will be hosted by Nathalie Clermont, the CMF's Vice-President, Programs and Business Development and Jeremy Spry, National Director, CMF Program Administrator.
