Toronto, February 24, 2014 – Canada’s children and youth producers are in Miami to showcase Canada’s wealth of talent at Kidscreen, a conference where content creators take advantage of business networking and engage in critical dialogue on issues that affect the industry.
The Canada Media Fund (CMF) in collaboration with Youth Media Alliance, Creative BC, the Ontario Media Development Corporation (OMDC) and SODEC will present a panel focused on Canada’s leading role in producing quality Children’s programming sold around the world.
In 2013-2014 alone, more than 10 CMF-funded Canadian Children’s television shows were sold to more than 30 territories around the world. Since 2010, the CMF has contributed more than $300M dollars in funding to 406 Children’s & Youth productions, generating $1.2B in production budgets.
Three projects are featured as part of a Canadian showcase panel taking place on Tuesday, February 24 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:15 a.m., moderated by DHX Media, Senior VP and General Manager, Kids & Family, Ken Faier:
- Odd Squad (Sinking Ship Entertainment) presented by J.J. Johnson: The Odd Squad, composed of Olive and Otto who work at Odd Squad Precinct #13579 located in a small town, is a government agency run by kids in suits equipped with the world’s most advanced and unpredictable gadgetry. Whenever something strange or unusual or just plain nuts happens, Olive and Otto’s job is to put things right again.
- ReBoot: The Guardian Code (Rainmaker Entertainment) presented by Michael Hefferon, follows the adventures of four typical teens whose lives are upgraded in a big way, when they discover they are next-gen Guardians - super cool heroes that stream into cyberspace so they can defend humanity from deadly computer viruses and malware.
- Look Kool (Apartment 11 Productions) presented by Jonathan Finkelstein, is a zany show about geometry, jam-packed with skits, songs, cartoons, and 3D special effects. The host, Hamza, with his mischievous robot cat Kool Kat, shows viewers how geometry is all around us, from roller coasters to Frisbees to ice cream cones. In every episode, real kids help Hamza solve a mathematical mystery. This production is produced in both separate English and French versions.
Valerie Creighton, President and CEO of the Canada Media Fund will introduce Beth Richardson, Consul Foreign Policy and Diplomatic Service from the Consulate General of Canada who will say a few words about the benefits of working with Canada.
Kidscreen Summit attendees are also invited to attend the Canada Space to meet and network with Canadian content creators. In addition to the Canada space, other Canadian events are being organized by provincial agencies.
